USC WitnesSing to the Word on its Fourth Year

The University of San Carlos (USC) and the Campus Ministry held its fourth WitnesSing to the Word, a songwriting contest, on Oct. 24, 2018 at Michael Richartz Convention Center, Talamban Campus.
This year’s top ten finalists included “Paglaum Ko” by Kristel Budomo from Senior High School, “Send Your Light” by Romel Rondina from the School of Architecture Fine Arts and Design, “Exodus” by Renee Frances Dublin from the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), “To the Promised Land” by Christine Joy Original from School Of Business and Economics, “My Journey, My Goal” by Margarethe Ellaine Matin-ao from SAS, “Come With Us Through the Exodus” by Lucienne Noelle Gabuya and Divo Skye Crawford Grade 9 students from USC North Campus, “The Fate” by Matt Jacob Villaver and Vincent Abella from School of Engineering, “Isang Saksi” by Dave Yacob, Angela Demaisip, Aaron Leyson, K-jya Remola, Mary Ferolin, Jackie Cho, Van Pauline Camson and Vhanesa Guardiario, Grade 10 students from USC North Campus, “Bathe in Golden Sunlight” by Elvin Rey Dalumpines and Mary Guadalupe Canete from SAS, and “Hold On to Your Word” by Gretchen Panfilo from School of Business and Economics Each of the contestants were given the chance to perform their own pieces in front of the audience and judges.
Certificates were given to award the top ten composers and lyricists. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Neil Salarda for arranging the music compositions. The final three received trophies and cash prizes. The second runner up was awarded to Gretchen Panfilo, who received 10,000 PHP, followed by the first runner up, Margarethe Ellaine Matin-ao, who received 15, 000 PHP while the champion, Kristel Budomo, received 20,000 PHP.. In addition to bagging first place, she was also awarded as the best interpreter. The rest of the contestants received consolation prizes worth 2,000 PHP.
This event is just one of the venues for the Carolinian community to showcase their talents. USC is looking forward to future competitions in the years to come with more participants promoting and becoming Witnesses to the Word.
