The Physical Education Faculty and staff organized the PE Festival with the theme #BeyondDance. It was participated by all PE11 students and was held at the Pentagon, USC – South Campus at 8 a.m. on August 29, 2015. The PE Festival is a showcase of field mass dancing inspired by the different pop icons and the declaration of the titles of Mr. and Ms. PE Fest.
“The PE11 students have labored for about two months to really give it their all and their best. They have sacrificed much because our hashtag is #BeyondDance” said, Astrid Ocampo, emcee and PE11 teacher. The students in their colorful costumes, bright smiles and high- powered energy were more than ready to perform the greatest hits of their pop icon.
The first to present danced to the beat of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Second was the group dancing to Christina Aguilera, the princess of pop. Followed by the 1990s pop icon, Ricky Martin in fringe costumes. Then the American disco group, The Village People in white sailor costumes dancing to the hit “YMCA”.
Next up was the 90’s American boy band, Backstreet Boys. Then the Jenifer Lopez group who flashed hot dance moves. Followed by the Colombian artist, Shakira showing off their belly dancing abilities then the all American dream Taylor Swift group dancing to the hit “Shake It Off”.
An intermission number was presented by violinist, Dan Cimafranca. The field mass dancing then resumed with the group of the master rapper Pitbull. Afterwards, the group of the King of Pop Michael Jackson imitated his classic dance moves to a remix of his many hits. The next group danced like divas to the hits of the self described “modern-day feminist” Beyoncé; then the American pop star Britney Spears group; followed by the 80s pop icon Gloria Estefan group who danced to the beat of Conga in colorful ruffled costumes and lastly to perform was the group of English singer and song writer Jessie J.
To conclude the program, selected dancers from the different groups performed at the finale and an important announcement was made that left the PE11 students overjoyed which is the suspension of classes for two weeks.
