The annual TC Days celebration culminated on September 24, 2016 at the BCT in USC – TC. This year’s theme was “Around the World in 6 Days” and the last leg of the journey ended in the Philippines, at a time where feudal warriors protected the land. The Collegiate Engineering Council rounded up eighteen freemen to walk the runway and compete for various titles, the pinnacle of which was the esteemed Mr. and Ms. TC award.

It was a night of Pinoy pride. The audience was serenaded with OPM songs by prominent Carolinian talents like Rafael Seva and Ian Enriquez among others, until the lights dimmed and the show officially began with an invocation and the national anthem. Then, Kinesyx took over the stage with the eighteen candidates donning their best maharlika wear. Each department in TC cheered vibrantly for their representatives and even others from different schools, unifying everyone in the spirit of the night.

Judging the candidates were the pioneers Sheena Macapinig, chief executive of Sheena Skin and Body Wellness; designers Brendon Cenon and Winston Sy; Matthew Zaldaraiga; and Apriel Smith, Carolinian model and Bb. Pilipinas 2016 contestant.

Minor and Sponsorship awards were given to the candidates during the course of the evening. The Mr. and Ms. Popularity awards were based on the number of “love” reactions each candidate received on the Mr. and Ms. TC Facebook page and given to Earl Veloso and Dia Maguikay, while Eric Peñas and Mimie Tan won People’s Choice. Crowned best in both formal and fun wear were Britney Fernandez and Antonio Alfaro, whereas Jhonnette Sabenicio and Adrian Jose won best in traditional wear.

Coming close to the end of the pageant, deafening cheers were heard from SHCP and SOE as the results were announced that Nursing’s Rikki Pepino and Chemical Engineering’s Dia Maguikay were crowned as Mr. and Ms. TC 2016, alongside numerous other awards. Hot on their heels were Advertising Arts’ Timothy Gelbolingo and Britney Fernandez as first runners-up.

When asked how they felt about winning the crown in an exclusive interview, Pepino said, “It’s pretty surreal. There’s so much going around in my mind right now, but all in all, it’s an honor.”

“It still hasn’t sunk in, but I know I’m very much happy,” said Maguikay. Her family travelled all the way from Ormoc to cheer her on that evening. She was ecstatic to have been able to thank them for their support by letting them witness her being crowned.

As an inside joke with her other supporters, she said, “I told you guys the promise! I never failed it. Thank you!”

“I’d just like to say thank you so much for everyone’s support. I just know that everything I’ve done in this pageant, I did it all for you,” Pepino said, addressing all the people who took to the stands that evening in support of him, especially his fellow Carolinians in SHCP.
