Hendri Go, head of the Cebu Literary Festival, in partnership with Ayala Anew organized the CebuLitFest Open Mic Poetry + Music to be held on July 9, 2016, Saturday at The Walk, Asiatown I.T. Park.
Open Mic Poetry + Music is a night of entertainment and inspiration through words and music. It is a spoken word platform that embraces the Cebu community and its literature, and commonly consists of the popular hugot lines and OTWOL and Sarah Kay-like pieces.
The event’s aim is to provide a platform for artists to connect with each other. It will also feature some of the best performers, poets and singers in the city today. The artists to perform depend on who signs up in the CebuLitFest Facebook page and who signs up on the day of the event.
“It is really open in the sense that anyone can perform spoken word, poetry or music,” Go said.
Not only would there be the open mic, but there would also be booths stationed everywhere, an open space to wander around, food and drinks, books, artist-made goods and #CebuLitFest merchandise. The artist-made goods comprise of their calligraphy works, handmade stuff and journals. In total, great vibes all over.
Open Mic Poetry + Music is one of the lead-up events before the main event which is the Cebu Literary Festival on Nov. 26, 2016 at the Ayala Activity Center. Other lead-up events include spoken word workshops and poetry workshops and there are more to come.
Registration for artists is still going on. All you have to do is go to their Facebook page “CebuLitFest Open Mic Poetry + Music at The Walk” to fill out the online registration form. For those who would love to be part of the audience, mark your calendars because you would not want to miss a night of entertainment and inspiration through words and music, all for free.
