The upcoming ASEAN Integration had the marketing students prepare for its implementation as they convened in the 4th Student Marketing Conference held last Friday at the Trade Hall of SM City Cebu.

The conference was a joint effort of the University of San Carlos (USC) through Integrated Marketing Association for Growth and Excellence (IMAGE) in cooperation with Philippine Marketing Association (PMA)–Cebu Chapter, and Association of Marketing Educators (AME)–Cebu Chapter.

The event was headed by Danna Bacolod, the President of SYBEE (Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs) and the Chairman of IMAGE; with the assistance and guidance of Ivy Jumao-as, Marketing Cluster Head; the Class of Mark 39 under Cergen Go; and a group of young volunteers from USC.

The conference with the theme “Globalized Marketing: Readiness to the 2015 ASEAN Integration” was an effort to help the business and marketing students understand and ready themselves for the upcoming 2015 ASEAN Integration, which will see a bridged alliance between the Philippines and the other ASEAN countries of the world.

The event did not only limit itself to an audience of marketing majors from USC alone. Students from freshmen to senior year from the many major universities of Cebu City such as the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), University of Cebu (UC), University of the Philippines (UP), Southwestern University (SWU), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), University of the Visayas (UV), and Salazar Colleges were also invited to take part in the event.

He was followed by keynote speaker Yayu Javier, the President of the PMA–National Chapter, who gave an insight of what the 2015 ASEAN Integration will bring to the Philippine shores, urging and inspiring the future entrepreneurs of the city of Cebu to align themselves and work for the same goal towards a brighter future for the country through the integration.

Jay Yuvallos, Philippine Representative for the ASEAN – Business Advisory Council, then gave the students an insight on the ASEAN Integration 2015 Landscape for the Philippine sector.

The event then proceeded into the afternoon with guest speakers from some of the top businesses who gave a talk on the many different aspects of the ASEAN 2015 Integration in the Philippines with Eugene Erik Lapasaran Lim, an alumni from USC, who gave an insight on “Products and Services”; Doods Policarpio, President of DALE CARNEGIE, on “Segmentation”; Carla Marie Adlawan, Brand Manager of Islands Souvenirs, on “Branding Strategies”; MeAnne Bundalian, AVP of OLX PH, on “Localizing a Global Brand”; and V.J. Eugenio, President and GM of Buzz Drivers Inc., on “Strategic Marketing”.

Pocholo Gonzales, President of VOICEWORKS, then gave a talk on “Challenging Students in this ASEAN Times”; followed by Hans Roxas Chua, President of e-Learning who headed the launch of “Digital Marketing Competition” and the signing of the memorandum of agreement with IMMAP (Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines).

The event ended with a showcase of the marketing talents of the many business and marketing students from the various colleges and universities who attended the event, followed by closing remarks from Ivy Jumao-as.

When asked about his thoughts about the conference, Robert Fernando Lopez Barnes, a member of the Class of Mark 39, said, “Filipinos will now have the opportunity to work with ASEAN countries, so the point in the conference is to prepare ourselves, the future entrepreneurs, for the future.”
