USC- DHM holds 1st Visayas Junior TH Congress 2016
The University of San Carlos-Department of Hospitality Management (USC-DHM) held the first Visayas Junior Tourism and Hospitality Congress with the theme, “Igniting Ripples of Change: Empowering Future Movers of the Industry” in the Michael Richartz Building at the USC-Talamban Campus last September 24, 2016.
This event aimed to enlighten and engage both students and professionals about the different challenges that they may face and opportunities that are available in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry.
The congress gathered many students from schools within the Visayas region, namely: St. Cecillia’s College, Visayan State University, Mater Dei College, Mandaue City College, Lapu-Lapu City College, Cebu Eastern College and also USC senior high and college students.
The keynote speaker, Dir. Robert Lim Joseph who is a wine connoisseur and an icon for world travel lectured about the main theme of the event. The first resource speaker, Ms. Arnela Mimi Gonzales, a BS Computer Engineering student of USC and a freelance blogger discussed about the topic, “Marketing Level Up: Emergence of Food Blogging”.
The second resource speaker was Ms. Janine Ella Anongos, a full-time software engineer, author and blogger. Anongos discussed about “Marketing Level Up: Emergence of Destination Blogging”. Lastly, Mr. Anito Lanticse, the general manager of Be Grand Resorts- Bohol discussed about “Winning over Faceless Foes: Local Accommodation’s Initiative in Competing with Alternative Emerging Types of Accommodation”.
In the afternoon, a Hospitality/Tourism Skills Fair was held with different lecture sessions about the skills in which these students can improve themselves more, such as Wine Emotions, Cupping, Flair Tending/ Mixo Showdown, Essentials of Tour Packaging, and Basic Computer Reservation System. The event was then concluded with a performance by the Dance Troupe.
