#1000reasons project to help less privileged children
Project #1000reasons, a nationwide project to help one thousand school children to school, was launched August 25 at Plaza Independencia, Cebu City.
The project was headed by I am M.A.D. (Making A Difference) movement and co-organized by USC Pathways. The aim of the project is to help less privileged Filipino children by finding one thousand sponsors nationwide that can supply an amount of P1000 per one child. The said amount is enough to support the child throughout high school so that he can have a fair amount of assistance to augment for his school needs and requirements.
At the beginning of the launching, a flash mob was set to encourage the participants to assemble for the talk to endorse the #1000reasons project. Clare Galon, the area coordinator of the I am M.A.D movement, gave a short talk about the project and initiated the countdown of the project launching. Afterwards, participants were given the chance to post the things that makes them happy at the #1000reasons freedom wall.
The project was launched simultaneously at other parts of the country at Quezon City Circle in Luzon and Zamboanga City in Mindanao. Ms. Galon stated that they aim to collect 50 sponsors in Cebu to help those children who are badly in need of assistance especially at the northern areas that have been affected by typhoon.
Participants of the #1000reasons project were college students from University of San Carlos, University of Cebu, Cebu Institute of Technology – University and Parish Youth Coordinating Council (PYCC) members of the Archdiocese of Cebu and high school beneficiaries of USC Pathways.
I am M.A.D. is a movement of youth volunteers with an advocacy to make a difference in the lives of many, especially the Filipino children, and it was founded last 2009. It hopes to instill passion to the Filipino children so that they may have the courage to proclaim “I am M.A.D” (Making A Difference) with its advocacy.
The program ended with a picture-taking at the freedom wall, the participants making the signature pose for the #1000reasons project. Interested individuals may also post their picture for “what makes you happy?” and post it on social networking sites like facebook and have the hashtag #1000reasons.
