The opening ceremony for this year’s University Days was held today at the University of San Carlos –Talamban Campus, with the theme, “Cleaning the Educational Slate Consolidating Renewed Foundations”.
The opening date started with Zumba and Fun Run at the TC Covered Court. The Fun Run was divided into two divisions: students and alumni; and administrative employees and faculty. Featured in the event were three routes: the 3K route, which is from the Portal all the way to the Stadium and then to the Registrar’s office; the 5K route, which is from the Portal to the Retreat House and then to the Registrar’s office; and the 10K route, which had the fewest participants and included two rounds of the 5K route.
After the Fun Run, the participants took part in Zumba, with incorporated moves from hip-hop, salsa and samba, among others. Afterward, a Holy Mass was held at the St. Arnold Janssen and St. Joseph Freinademetz. The ceremony was officiated by Fr. Dionisio M. Miranda, SVD, the university president. The Mass was celebrated to ask blessings for the whole duration of the University Days.
Lastly, lunch was served with the Barrio Fiesta held at the TC Covered Court. This occasion was open to all Carolinians, from students and alumni to faculty members and non-teaching personnel, with various dishes served per school. This occasion signified a facet in Filipino culture — the importance of family and community.
